Simple feelings about Ben X #1

It’s always exciting when we watch films during the class time. However, since we watched Earthlings on Mr. Garrioch’s class, our films get more gloomy day by day. What we watched last class was Ben X, the film about the autistic teenager suffering on the school.
When the film began, the loading windows of World of Warcraft excited us, and the morbidly playing player loosen up our afraid about the contents of it. Because we watched Earthlings last time, I was very bothered by my conjecture on the film; won’t it be disgusting like the Earthlings did?
The movie seemed quiet normal until the player, Ben, gets out of his home and take a walk for his school. When I was at middle school, I saw some students bothered by every sound they hear, and psychologically very fragile due to their addiction of computer games. Thus, Ben didn’t seem to be so unusual or creepy. Even sometimes I’m that much sensitive to the sounds I hear, and don’t want to have any communications with my acquaintances.
However, when the scene reached to the point where Ben’s bullied by so-called friends, especially in the way of sexually harassing, and the result was posted online, I felt extremely sorry about him. Though I’m not his friend nor know him in offline world, I just couldn’t understand why there’s actually no one who keeps him from bullying. Sure, there seemed to be one, who passed the video recorder to Ben, but he actually didn’t stop bullies. Also, the other things I couldn’t understand were the attitude of adults toward his autism. Why his parents keep him to study in the school where he can’t have any protections? Why the teacher of him says such phrases like, “He’s different and we must accept it”, even in front of him? Can’t it be an abrasion for him? Why the principal wants him to say all things that are done to him, in front of the bullies? Why doctors are not so serious about his autism, and just speak in arid ambience? For me, all of those seem not effective to the autism.
Frankly speaking, it wasn’t creepy for my at all, unlike my classmates. However, it was too gloomy to accept and to face the fact of his being harassed. Also, due to the interviews conducted to his acquaintances, such as his mother, I can’t hesitate myself from watching the rest part of the film. What will happen after these sequences of events?

The Martian Chronicles Favourite Quote

April 2031, Third Expedition, "Tush", said by the grandma of Lustig.

Tush is only a word, so might not be regarded as a quote. However, though it's only one word and it's a interjection, still the fresh and slight shock that came to me when I read it is lingering in my mind.

The first though I had was, 'Wow, how come this word can be showed up in American Literature?". The word 'Tush' is widely used among some students of 16th wave. For example, Hyun Jinkwan, me, etc. Actually, none of us thought that it was a real word that exists in dictionary. After reading this word, I told Jinkwan, that there's tush in the book. We were extremely shocked then. Also, what we thought was that the sounds expressing feeling is equal world widely. From that, we were able to see how the human races are same, and to feel how we should treat others. Though it was a short word, it actually snapped out minds, and was able to reconsider our attitudes toward other cultures.

The other reason why this word was impressing is because it made me to believe that the grand parents and other 1950s-Earth-like-stuffs are real, not Martians. When the grandma said this, I thought the real grandma is scolding Lustig for not noticing the reality, until the captain thought about the telepathy. Since the year has changed compare to the previous chapter, I thought those Earth people are living on the another part of the planet. However, when I read the part, that captain thinks about the possibility of telepathy and hallucinations, then I was able to realize that it was fake. The word 'Tush' was quiet important for me to believe the story was real.

My unfortunate story in my school when I was 13

It was then when you were spending a last year in elementary school. You was at the age of 13. You liked a girl in same class. Since you were 4th grader, she was your classmate, and I bet you liked her since then; which means that you loved her for 3 years.
But as you remember, you were extremely fat, that you got a ‘warning’ level from physical test. Especially your belly was as big as when the frog rabbiting. It was your complex, so you always kept your belly shrank when you were at the school. Oh, you remember that it was the major reason why you didn’t tell her that you like her. You know, you were always tall before the age of 15(since then, you haven’t grow up), you were the best in every subject except physical education. However, always, the belly was problematic. As you do know, your nickname is Fat Raccoon since 13.
Of course, though you tried your best to hide your belly, it was too big to be hidden. However, you thought that it worked thoroughly, so you always seek for a chance to say I love you.
You do remember the day of awful Monday. I can’t remember the date exactly, but it was Monday I bet. Do you remember the date? You don’t? Okay. But I’m sure it was Monday that awful thing happened to you.
It was 5th period, and we were studying sociology. In text book, there was a conversation between various jobs such as teacher, doctor, constructor, and other jobs, because the book was talking about ‘jobs’, and each character was explaining about their jobs.
The teacher wanted students to do the action; she made you guys to pick a role and act(actually just reading the textbook) in front of the class. You was chosen to act the teacher, and your friends took others. However, all of your friends just read about their roles in their seat. Unfortunately you were the last one to speak out, and your teacher wanted you to come in front of the class, because others didn’t. You really didn’t wanted to go to the front, but your friends pulled you out from the seat. After a minute, you were at the front of the class.
So, you read the text in front of your classmates. However, after that, your teacher wanted you to entertain the classmates. Oh yeah, I bet it was your teacher’s real purpose. Because everyone in your class was sleeping due to the time(it was right before lunch time, so everyone was sleeping). Well, as I saw, you seemed you really didn’t want to entertain them. Of course, it wasn’t your role to entertain, and you didn’t want to be embarrassed in front of the girl that you love. And that’s how it all began.
You tried to run away and rushed to your seat in order to seat down. Well. Most students were already waked up, and starring at you, so I think it was quiet reasonable to seat down. However, your teacher grabbed you, when you were rushing to your seat.
Unfortunate for me, she failed to grab other parts of your body, but she succeeded in grabbing your shirt. Wow. I was surprised too, and you seemed very surprised. You were dashing to your seat, so you lost a control on your belly, so the belly was drooped towards the floor, and spread towards the front. With the situation of ‘to take out energy from the belly and put it on the leg muscle to run’, she pulled your shirt. Shit.
You accidentally showed your gigantic belly to your classmates; of course, the girl also saw it. You hit the table and dropped your face down with embarrassment. I saw the girl when you hit the table. Her face was full of disgust, and was pale. Oh yeah, it was one of the biggest reason why you failed to be friendlier with her.
After graduation, you exercised a lot, and I remember you became a soccer player of your middle school once, and became one of the excellent runners of the school. Sure, only in 1st grade. You haven’t played any sports since 2nd grade. Anyway, somehow I bet the trauma of 6th grade helped you to think about your body, and made you to keep your health.
Well, though you lost a chance to become friendlier with her or keep contacting with her, at least you got a health. Let’s be thankful to it.

iDebate 300 words, Animal Experiment is Necessary! don't protest against it please

Whenever biologists use animals for experiment, some animal protection organizations, such as Humane Society or PETA, protests in front of National Assembly and laboratories. However, as I’m trying to major in biology, I think this kind of demo is useless, and even giving sinister effects to them. Especially the animals used in biology experiments (rather than psychology or physics) are getting more sympathy, and even some people are strongly against it. But, the animal experiment is necessary and it should be continued without any brakes by animal protecting groups.
All of them, who are protesting it, are earning benefits from the experiment. Headache pills like Tylenol, ointments, digestive medicines are made by animal experiments. Everyday life, they take those pills after heavy drinking and overeating. Everyday life they are using these ointments to their kids or themselves. Why? Aren’t they against the animal experiment? They are earning benefits every time whenever the new medicine came out from the experiment. They are actually getting benefits, so they really should not protest it.
The organizations think that the experiment is only for humans. However, the result of experiments can be adapted to both humans and animals. Therefore their insistences that ‘the animal experiment is egoism of humans’ can’t be true. Sure, we (including scientists) feel sympathy to the sacrificed animals. Sure, it is problem that some animals should be sacrificed for other animals. However, it’s for all-all the creatures. Otherwise I think that protesting to animal experiment is egoism-just caring about few animals. Those people should think about it. Which is more important: the aids for all animals and humans those are suffering from diseases or physical problems, or very very few animals those are sacrificed in laboratory? Plus, the experiment is also helpful to preserve endangered animals. Now, who are more egocentric?
Finally, there are 3Rs that can prevent abuse of animal experiments. 3R is Reduction, Refinement, and Replacement. By reduction, we can use the least number of animals for experiment. By Refinement scientists are trying their best to help animals not be suffer from pain. By Replacement, if we are able to, we find other ways that doesn’t use animals.

Run for my dream

No.24 is me. The last one among applicants.

It was the day, 24th of October, 2010. It was the last day of interview for the KMLA 16th waver selecting draft. Traditionally, male applicants of KMLA have to run 4 kilometers in 30 minutes and female applicants have to run same distance in 35 minutes. The ‘running’ starts after the interview. With the sound of ‘bang’ from the PE teacher’s gun, every applicants starts running, and each program assistants have to watch their applicants’ running.
Before the 24th of October, I was concerned about that ‘marathon’. Other students must be concerned about the interview itself, and they were actually preparing for it. However, as I haven’t exercised for more than a year, I was afraid of not being able to finish the running in given time. And I had 6 days before my interview. I ran and ran every night. Even during the practice, I wasn’t able to finish my race in 30 minutes. My best record was 43 minutes.
My last interview was about my major. I wasn’t in a good mood because of Dr. Han and Dr. Na. They asked some university level questions to me, and of course, I couldn’t answer to them. I went out their room in bad mood, and I realized that I met the most difficult task of KMLA newbie draft; the race. While I was changing my clothes, I thought, ‘hey, I might be the one who will be the leftover of the race… damn. It’s not my day. Well. Let’s try my best!’
My father always said to me; ‘keep your pace, don’t follow others.’ I was reminding myself before I began to run.
BANG!
The sound of gunpowder’s explosion hit my ear. I started to run. However, most boys were running out in enormous speed, and I was running among girls. Well, of course I thought it is humiliating, so I started to move my legs faster.
Of course, I was exhausted after a lap; the 3rd lap.
‘Oh, man. I’m doomed. Why did you use all of your energy in your very first lap, you idiot’
My body started to decrease his speed himself. I was having hard time to go left laps. According to my father, he took that picture when I started to decrease my speed. After taking photo, he yelled to me. “Run! You idiot! You can do it!”
At the very last lap, I wasn’t able to run anymore. My heart bumps irregularly and my leg didn’t have power anymore. At the time, the senior, Han Jinwoo from 14th waver, the PA of me, started to run with me. It was so, so sorry and thankful for him. However, I was time outed; I came in in 34 minutes and 40 seconds.
With these episodes, also with the fact that I’m in KMLA, this photo reminds me of my life in my hometown and that extreme situation I met during the race. I think I’m not running as hard as that time. I’ll run harder than that, and will succeed my dream of University.
